Dynomax and Magnaflow make good mufflers for 6 cylinder trucks. Be forewarned that the louder the muffler you install, the more it will sound like a tractor. When I had my 81 C20 I put on a cheap Autozone muffler and it worked very well. It had a 292 I6 and was horribly loud and sounded terrible without one.
with the 300/6 you can just run a 20$ cheery bomb even if you gut the cat.it wont sound like a barking v8 at all.it'll just be a deeper mellow tone, even when talking to it.
Think a Borla Pro XS would sound good connected to one of our 4.9s?
seriously.save the $80 and just run a cheap glass pack.it'll sound the same.pretty mild, even with gutting the cat.the 300's just don't have loud exhaust.you'll never get the v8 tone your looking for.

My truck already has a glass pack on it and I hate the drone at highway speeds. Mind you the welds from the previous owner's welding skills are subpar and theres a major exhaust leak before the muffler. I'm happy with the lack of highway drone with my car's Borla so I was hoping for the same thing with the exhaust of this truck too.
I run a magnaflow because I got it for free but I love the way it sounds. I'm still running both factory cats. I want to replace them with a high flow to make it a little louder but I'm not sure when I'll go about that.
My truck already has a glass pack on it and I hate the drone at highway speeds...
I learned that the highway drone is not necessarily caused by the mufflers. I had a single-cab V8 truck with no cats, true 2" duals, and 14" Walker glasspacks. It would rattle the windows when you got on it (exactly what I was after - I loved it). Thing is, at highway speed it wasn't even noticeable...not loud except when full-throttle, such as passing. It certainly didn't have any objectionable "drone". It was like all the noise was behind me, if that makes sense.
Then, I got a "family" truck - an extended-cab V8, and put in 30" Walker glasspacks instead of the stock muffler. I left the cat in place. It was much more docile than the other truck when I jumped on it, but the drone on the highway was very annoying. Right in the 65-70mph zone, it was bad enough to give you a headache. The only difference from the factory system was the dual glasspacks in place of the factory muffler.
I ended up taking them off and going back with the stock muffler, so the family could take pleasant road trips.
Both of these trucks had side exit pipes, behind the rear wheels.
My exhaust guy thinks - and my experience agrees - that cats, muffler and pipe diameter, and even distance from the tailpipe, have more to do with drone than the type or size of muffler.

I agree with that as well. Adding a cat, fixing the exhaust leaks and having a consistant size iswhat I'm hoping will make my truck sound a lot better.
