Yes. That is a beautiful truck. Anybody would want one like that. Some can even afford it.
I just personally get very ho hum when people answer questions about their truck by saying such-and-such a shop did that. Even if I won the lotto, I would still build my own truck. Just so I could say "I did that".
I agree with you 100% Randy. I didn't put this truck up because there is mega bucks into it. I for one can't afford to do what they did, and I'd have to do it myself if possible (NO TRAILER QUEENS). I did put it up because there are several pictures of the process, such as the doors, the bed, hood, engine, etc. It was a great source of different projects or ideas that maybe we all can use in building our trucks.
I agree with you guys on the build it yourself. Although I do have to admit If I could afford to pay someone I would have them do a frame off restoration for me.
Lotto win would definitely move me from grunt worker on the trucks to project manager and procurement supervisor (I'd still love buying the parts). I'd still have to finish what I have planned as planned with me doing the work. At least I'd be able to do it full time. The challenge of being able to do it (rebuild) played a big part in my decision to purchase my trucks. Well that and I get to drive them, and they are cool and ...
Once the current projects are done though, I don't think I'd need to do it again. I'd pay from then on and become project manager. I will state however, I do not begrudge folks for paying for the work. To each their own. In some respects they may get to enjoy the truck a little more since they won't notice or know about that little dimple under on the firewall just above the bellhousing or that tiny scratch that occured an the inner fender right behind the battery tray when the truck was being assembled.
Did any of you take a look around the site and find the $120,000 56 F-100. George, if you are reading this, don't look. I'm just trying to warn you, it's falls a little short of being a purist's restoration.
Its a beautiful piece or art. Why do I call it art? It meant to be looked at and admired. Trailered and polished for shows, magazine articles, and pictures. I seriously doubt it used as a truck at all. Do you see someone driving it daily (to and from work), or hauling dirt in the back, or maybe towing a fishing boat? Not likely.
I agree with Randy (who drives his). Building it would be half the fun. Would I pay someone if I had leno's bucks? Probably, but you see him driving them. I think he drives them all, no matter how much they are worth.
