Duratec/Duramax ???????????

I am wondering if Ford copied an idea. The thought just crossed my name.

How about the fact the Modular Ford V8's are known as "Triton", whereas Nissan calls their truck "Titan". That one always made me wonder.

Their are numerious ones that made me wonder. Just crosses between names and variations can get you a lot. I never thought of the triton/titan one.

Ford has at least two engines named after ancient gods: Triton and Vulcan. If anybody copied anybody on the "dura" part, GM copied Ford. I think the Duratec showed up in the Taurus cars starting in 1996, it may have been in the Contour as well.

I was going to say - the Duratec engine family name has been around since the early 90's.

I was also going to say, that it is a load of .....
It doesn't designate anything, a lot of the European Duratec engines are barely related, it was just a marketing thing to get back at Opel and Vauxhaul for thier "Ecotec" engines (whose name has equal technical significance).

Going way back to the mid-70's, Chevy called that disasterous aluminum Vega engine the 'Dura-Built' after they figured out how to keep the head gaskets from leaking!
