ok--the left turn signal on my 98 F150 is intermitent! when i crank it down, it won't come on. then sometimes it blinks real fast, then other times it acts normal. most times you have to re-do the crank a coupla times to make it work. the RIGHT turn signal is perfect BTW!
is this a relay? i don't think it's fuse related or it wouldn't work at all. all the bulbs front and back are good! thx jw
You might have a broken filament in one of the left turn signal bulbs, too.
Turn signal bulbs have two filaments inside the same bulb. One's the side-markers that come on with the headlights and the other is for turn/brake. The filament might break so that it shorts across to the other filament, finding a pathway to ground. The bulb would still "look good" to you. The trouble comes when you hit a bump and they come unhooked again.
You could check this by looking at the bulb with your parking lights on. Do you have one that's brighter than the others? If so, that might be it.
Just in case you don't find anything obvious like a corroded socket or a damaged wire...
after checking all that has been said if you don't find the fix then it could be the controler it self it may have junk on it and sometimes not making a full contact. spray some cleaner in the steering collum and try it. I have seen it on older vehicles but who knows.
Same thing with my '97! I read a forum about the generic control module (gcm) in the steering column. Controls all kinds of stuff. Gets dirty, can disassemble, clean yourself. Yet to do mine-this week! Hopefully this will cure my intermittent wipers, and washer fluid woes! Search for the forum and instructions! lol
steering column? woaaaah there trigger! is this a big deal to get in there? i pulled a steering columns years ago WHEN i could do that......never did get it back aligned properly...
