Was the 300 in-line 6 cylinder ever mated to an automatic transmission? Will my motor, mated to a 4 speed manual clutch, mate up with an automatic clutch?
Others on this forum will certainly have more insight on this than me but I can tell you I had a friend with an 86 F150 4x4 that had a 300 six cylinder and an automatic. ( It was a real dog and loved gas) I had a manual 300 six cylinder and it is much better in terms of power and fuel useage. I switched the 300 six out for a 302 and actually got better fuel mileage. Now that I think of it, I have seen both the carb models and EFI 300's with auto's and manuals. I would guess that a crossmember, bellhousing and maybe starter would be different not to mention the linkages to name a few that come to mind. Maybe the more modern transmissions would do a better job, but I have no experience with them- Dave
289/300/302/351 all have the same Bolt Pattern, so all you need to do is find an Auto Trans Bell Housing w/ that pattern, the Proper Torque Coverter for which ever trans you choose, either a C-4 or C-6 & you are good to go.

What I meant to say, is manual "tranny", not clutch. I didn't know if the bolt pattern for a manual and auto tranny are the same or not. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks!
