I was thinking about putting the Bully Dog system in my 06 King Ranch dually, with the outlook monitor and I was wondering what the opinions were on this system, any help would be appreciated.
I have the Bully Dog Power Pup programmer w/ monitor on my 04 6.0 Excursion. It makes a ton of power, and you don't really need to use more than the 50% program. At 50% the outlook monitor says the truck is putting down 400hp and 650 ft lbs of torque.
The only thing I don't like is when you change the program for whatever reason, the trans takes a long time to start shifting right with the extra power. (at least on my truck) It seems to slam and shift hard into 2, and 3rd gears for a few hundred miles. When I called Bully Dog, they didn't think it was due to the programmer, so who knows. Overall it is a easy to use and very powerful programmer.
You'll have to let me know how you like it when you get it on. Anything under 50% was no problem, anything over 50% for the first few hundred miles you had to go easy or I would get the bad shifts, even after "retraining" the trans. Please let me know.....
Sure thing. It shouldn't take me to long to get over that few hundred miles waiting period, between horse shows, hauling trees and bobcats, and just plain traveling, I should go thru that pretty quick, I'm hoping to pick up the stuff during my lunch break and then hook it up tomorrow since I have the day off, I'll let you know when I get it hooked up and then let know know as things progress.
Finally installed the triple dog downloader with the outlook monitor yesterday, didnt really have a chance to open her up yesterday, but will try today with the little trip I'm goin on. Let you know how it goes.
I didn't have any problem at all with shifting, in either the performance or the extreme setting and it hit 115 pretty easy too, I could have done more, but I'm usually more of a conservative driver then that. Which system did you do? I put in the triple dog power pup, and I have pics of the monitor in my gallery, did you also do the triple dog or did you just use the power pup?
I got mine a while ago, they didn't have the triple dog, I just have the power pup and the monitor. Also Airaid intake and B&B Exhaust. It has a ton of power, but I think there is just something wrong with my truck. Oh, well.
I got to looking at the two and I don't really think there is a difference between triple dog and power pup, with the exception that triple dog you can use on any diesel engine, while the power pup you have to get for your particular model. I changed the air intake, but I didnt change the exhaust, would a straight pipe be sufficient to get a little more whistle or do I need to do more extensive work?
I think you just need to get a bigger diameter pipe. If you don't put a muffler on it, I'm sure it will sound pretty mean. I tried the HOG Exhaust, which is a 4" system including the downpipe. The only drawback with the 4" downpipe is you have to push out the firewall in a spot to make the pipe clear. But they have a muffler that sounds REALLY tough. It didn't really sound like a diesel, and it was loud! I really liked it. I think it was just my truck, but I changed it because I was getting really bad turbo lag. Some people said it was because the 6.0 needed a little more back pressure in the exhaust system. The B&B I have now, is a 4" system, but the downpipe is 3.5". If you didn't want to replace the whole system, you could put on a "cat back" system and I'm sure you would see some improvement in lower EGT's and still get the better sound. If you don't need the CAT for registration or emmisions where you are, I would loose it. I took mine off.
Actually, I still have that HOG system, if you have someone to install it, I could sell it to you and you can have your way with it. You could use it just "cat back" or with the bigger downpipe, if you like. Or you could buy a regular 3.5" downpipe and hook it up to the rest of the system. Their website is hogperformance.com if you want to check them out.
The main pluses to the Triple Dog are that it is internet upgradeable and with all the flashes Ford is doing that's a biggy. Being able to switch it between Ford/Cummins/Duramax if you trade is kinda cool also. Switching to a 4" will give you a little more, but changing the downpipe is kind of waste with the size of the wastegate only being 3.5". Bully Dog's 4" part #181033 in micro polished T-304 stainless rocks! Forget the downpipe it's a pain to install and make work anyway...wink/wink
I coudn't find anything for that T-304, they only had T-409 in stainless, what is the $ tag on something like that? I want to get it right the first time, but I'm really tryin to watch the old pocket book. Thanks.
