I am in need of some help. I have a 97 f250hd psd and i found a crack in the rear diff houseing. I had been noticeing a shake and went to check it out and found it near the front around the pinion out put. Well i saw a 1983 e350 van for sale and was wondering if the rear end will interchange without any modifing? I really dont want to cut and change anything if i dont have to. Any and all help is appreciated.
Vans have different spring perches, if I remember right. However, your biggest problem is that you need a VSS sensor in your rear axle, which the 83 doesn't have.
You need a rear axle out of a pickup from 1992 to 1997. If it's 4x4, the gears must be the same. If not, this is a good time to change it.
Any idea how it broke? I've never heard of anyone cracking a housing on a Sterling 10.25".
I was told the rear diff was rebuilt because of a pionion bearring going bad and wallowing out the seat for the bearing. I am guessing it has done it again and crackeed the houseing right at the front were the shaft connects to it.
1992? or so and up have the sensor location on the housing that you need to have for the tranny, but any rear from 1992 to 97 will fit. They will all be sterling 10.25 rear ends, and as long as it is from a truck.
I believe the diff in the van is a dana 60, It has a 351 mod. in it with a c-6. I can get the whole thing for $315.00. But if the rear end will not fit there is no need to get it. the van runs and drive. It has 16.5 wheels on it. If i do get it will the wheels from my truck work and how much work will it be to make it work in my truck. O ya my truck has a 5 speed, so does it need the vss on the rear end anyway?
if your gonna rebuild the rear diff you have now i suggest go through everything on it, ring gear, spider pinions/cross, spider gears, axle shafts make sure there is no other damage anywhere, if theres no damage you can get a case for it and just replace the pinion bearing
