Not impressed with the Resale on the 6.0's

Just to let any of you know that are looking into puchasing a new Ford 6.0 that the Resale on these trucks are terrible. I have an 04 F250 4x4 6.0 PSD Lariat, SB with some extras and only 18000miles that originally cost over $46k. Barely one year later I am trying to sell it to upgrade to a much larger truck and can't even get what I owe out of it. (Just a couple hundred over $31k). The used market for these trucks is terrible. I going to walk into Ford when I buy my next truck and ask them why the King of Heavy Duties loses over 40% of the value the day you drive it off the lot. I will never buy new again. I will buy a year or two old truck that has already had it's depreciation instead of taking it in the shorts again. I always thought the diesel could sell at a premium. Guess not.

Did you PAY 46K or was that the MSRP. I think there is a glut of used vehicles now due to the employees pricing plans that recently expired. It does hurt though to loose that much coin . I'm with ya, next time a year old truck or maybe a Volvo 610 with 500,000 miles for around 30k.

It's probably because you can buy a new truck for a little more than 31500 after rebates and what not. Not to mention that the financing on a new truck is much better than on a used one.

Also, all this employee pricing stuff dropped the bottom out of the used vehicle market.

BTW-Brand new vehicle depreciate really badly as soon as they hit the pavement in your name.

I paid $40k new. And yes the VNL610 would be nice but am leaning towards the 770 or KW T2. I am not saying the 6.0 is bad. Believe me I love this truck. Problem is we upgraded our trailer and now legally I can't tow it. So now we are looking to upgrade. Also I knew in advance there would be depreciation but have always been told that Diesels hold there value and there is a great market for a good used diesel. I am not seeing it. But like some of you have stated the family pricing might have alot to do with used vehicle prices being low. Still at the price I am asking it should be very reasonable don't you think?

Don't ever believe that "diesels hold value better" BS. The higher resale over a comparable gasser reflects the intial investment. Just like 4x4 over 4x2, XLT over XL, Lariet over XLT. Heck, around here they are about the same price as long as the rest of the truck is the same. The diesel might grab 1K more.

I think that there was a great market for a good used diesel. That market bubble has popped as the used truck market is now flooded with used diesels.

I have a friend that just sold his 00 7.3 with 225,000 miles for $8,000.00 he was hoping for 15,000.00 the truck was in great cond.

In March I bought a 05 Reg Cab 4X4 6.0 no trade in I wanted to keep the 01 CC LB 4X4 7.3. The recent sale Ford had made me want to get a 06 6.0 4X4 LB and I did. I tried to Trade the 05 Reg Cab that I paid $5,000 down and made 5 double Payments at $609.41. 2 dealers told me it was worth $21,000.00. That was $5,000.00 less than I owed and I had paid $11,094.10 on it. So I kept that one too. I have 3 trucks now I only need one but I'm not going to give them away!!

Guys, the used vehicle market is always hard when you purchased a new vehicle at such a low price. Figure it this way, we purchased '05 or some cases an '06 with the some depreciation already accounted for. This will definitely hurt the used market.

Think about it like this: Why should I pay $37K for a 1 year old truck when I can purchase a new one for $1K more... That makes the 1 year old truck worth $30K, and the dealer now has to give you $24K in trade...

We can thank Chevy for this.. The only good part about this whole thing is, those of us that needed a new truck, got one at a heck of deal. I for one, bought an '06 4x4 F250XLT 6.0 auto for $37K + fees...

laco...It's not army better for the Cummin's or Duramax.Higher than gas diesel prices doesn't help diesel resale much either.

Guess I'll be keeping my 03 for a while. The more I pay on it, the less it is worth.

That is the case with everything. Keep them as I have done and you will not be dissapointed!!

A great running like my 01 7.3 CC LB F250 Lariat 4X4 that is almost perfect with 215,000 is worth more than $8,000.00. My 01 is paid for it's been paid for for several years. I have had to do some Maint. on it but it will last another 4 years and 200,000 miles. Those miles would have to be put on something, it might as well NOT be put on my New 06 6.0 CC LB F350 Lariat 4X4!! It's worth more than $8,000.00 just for that alone!!

so your 9 G's down on a 2 year old truck with 18k on it. thats not bad for a trade in price. come on. its worth 5 G less the day you roll off the lot.

4 things killing resale. the 6.0's reputation, the price of fuel, the current state of the used(cough, cough) i mean pre-owed car market and the fact that so many are being bought back as lemons.

i wouldnt touch one with a ten foot pole.

All used vehicle resale pricing sucks now, but if you know you're going to sell within a year or two when you buy, then you better buy cheap. I bought my '04 over a year ago for $34k with 21k miles on it. With 65k miles on it, I still think I could sell for $28k-$29k - condition is excellent.

$5k a year depreciation is what is to be expected if you play the game right. If you buy high and sell low, you're gonna get screwed.

FleetFilter Brian, I don't think you will get $28K or $29K for a vehicle with 65K miles, no mater what condition it's in. The reality of the used market is that has driven every sector down.
