Cork will be OK if you don't need to take the covers back on. I'd go with the rubber, they tend to seal better and require no added sealer. If you're carefull with them when you remove 'em you can reuse them.

i have cork gaskets felpro. works great no leaks whatsoever.
i have also used rubber but things is rubber expands cork does not .
and you don't need any extra sealer remember hand tight.

My feeling is that cork is 1930s gasket technology. I prefer rubber but will use cork if that's all I can get. If you seal it up well and don't plan on having to go back in for a while (till the darn cork gaskets begin to leak after a bunch of heat cycles) then cork is okay, but rubber holds up better and is much easier to get off if you do have to go back in for any reason.

Go with Fel-Pro PermaDry Plus. They are especially made for particular applications, including the 2.9L and 4.0L OHV Ford engines. They are rubber composite and have a "hinged carrier" design for the "step" where the lower intake and heads meet up.
