Could be worse...you could be way up in Fort McMurray where I am and have to deal with -40 to -50 in the winter.........
I haven't been up to Fort Mack yet but one of the companies I work for just got a contract up there so I might be up. I did High Level this spring and I have been up to Peace River many times in the last 6 years. We did a Spring Shut down 3 years ago and Peace River was minus 30 with the wind taking her down to 40 below. I had my 2000 F350 PSD and it ran like a champ.
I had lots of heat in the cab and the Dodge boys were shoving cardboard in their rads and freezing thier asses off.
I did Athabaska a few years ago and stayed at Boyle. Saw Busloads of guys on their way up to the capital of Newfoundland as they call Fort Mac.
Well I made it back, it was a great trip and the V10 SD preformed just like it always does perfectly. I only locked it out of OD twice once in the wind NoMO was talking about ( I love my DRW in the wind) and south of Branson MO on the way home, lots of hills and windy roads ( I love my DRW on windy roads ). I had my normal gas ping at sea level but not to bad and just when I was pulling. I did get one load a bad gas all 65 gal of it, I think it was that blended crap for the big cities, also I would like to know how they bend it, up here when they blend the ethanol to make E10 fuel we end up with 89 octane and the stuff they blend for the big cities its still only 87 octane and makes motor run like crap, I think someone getting a hose job.
The highest priced gas we found was in Alabama and they had the worst roads and worst road signs, the cheapest fuel was in Mo and they had some pretty good roads.
My overall mileage was 8.3 considering what I pull, 400 miles in a heavy wind, 65 gal of less than great fuel and all the stop and go traffic down south, I was Petty happy with that. I always get better mileage going west even with the mountains.
Going down a nice stretch of road at 70 MPH, V10 pulling 2500 RPM in OD, 45 lbs in the bags, tranny temp 150 70 outside and so quiet in the truck cab you don't even have to turn up the radio. It just doesn't get much better than that.
Denny, glad to hear that you had a good safe trip. I agree with you 8.3 is not bad at all.
My 88 F250 with the EFI 460 would only get me 6 and that was with a little 8000 pound Fiver and I probably didn't have the power you do. Take care, Don.
Nebraska Rvpuller that was a great trip and report... Thanks for adding to the knowledge base
I hate to tell stories of all the times I took the family on a long trip and I was a nasty nervous wreck for the driving times. I sure helps a lot to have superior equipment that you can trus and also gets the job done...
Thank you Ford for the best truck I have ever owned!
I would love to see a real V10 owner up in the very Northern tier buy 4 quarts of oil.
One MC 5W20 $1.79

OOPS back off topic again, but I just gotta' try this. where I work we have a few floors of one building that are 60 below at all times. I'll get to work tomorrow on this project.
