Well, leaving today for a straight through drive from Chicago to Florida. Should be about 19 hours. First time to exercise the truck to this extent. No towing this trip.
Excited to see how it/I do with the long ride. We bought a place in FL. for future snow birding. Truck is packed with housewares and such to get the place going. Wife, me and three dogs are making the trip. Will fly home and leave her there for two weeks to get it set up. Will fly back and then drive the crew home.
Interested to see mileage and such. My current plan of only using BP for fuel will probably go out the window. Will probably fill up with the big boys in back.
Sounds like an interesting trip, I've had my truck almost 2 years(May 08 2010) and have'nt really ever had a chance to go anywhere because our store keeps me pretty tied down, the furtherest we have went is to Gulf Port (140)miles one way so I really need to just take off some day and just go go go, I love to drive & I love this truck, so maybe one day before I get too old I'm gonna just break down & do it
I made the trek to my familys place in Canada last year with 4 adults and a dog in the truck. Its a 24 hour trip each way by the time we stop for fuel, food, etc. It was quite comfortable really.
The only downside was my truck would bounce on roads with expansion joints. Rt. 53 from Eau Claire, WI to Duluth, MN was enough to put anyone to sleep - and we hit that in the middle of the night. I put on my Rancho 9000 shocks and the MyRide kit to overcome that, so I am anxious to see how the truck rides when I get up that way this year.
Trip was 18.5 hours and got 18.2 MPG according to the gauge......
Overall it was a joy to drive. Think the wife liked it as well. Long drive for the dogs but they did OK. The nav was not to clear around Atlanta and I took a wrong turn but that was the only time.
I did all BP except once. They are all closed in the wee hours, used pilot that time. Fly back home tomorrow and then back next week for the drive home.
I still use the Garmin for nav as the maps on the truck are out dated...
That flying J / pilot suggestion is a good idea...
looked into it and joined it too....
up to 12 cents per gallon off since I'm a member of good sam too...
I think the breakdown is u get to use the gas card as cash, so u get the credit to cash discount, then the rv plus card discount, then.... blah blah
