Headers

Hey guys, I am building a 79 f-150 4x4 supercab with a C-6 trans, .040 400, badger flattops,edelbrock perf intake,holley 650, and a edelbrock performer cam, .484 .510 lift and 204 214 @.050. I was told that this cam will not work very well without headers so I am wondering what is recommended for headers. suggestions? thanks.

Thats a pretty mild cam and should work with your exhaust manifolds. You would see some increass in performance with headers but they are tricky to find ones that fit well sometimes. I ended up with some old/new stock cragars that are supposedly made for my truck but we will see. Hedman makes different levels and most wil suggest ceramic coated ones- more $$.

I have to agree with Roger, your cam is not too radical to use with stock exhaust manifolds. I would at least put true dual exhaust on the truck to realize the benefits of your other mods., although headers would probably help out. I have a set of Hedman Elite headers for mine, didn't put them on yet, though, I was told by a tech at Summit Racing that they receive very few complaints compared to other brands on the 335 series 4x4 trucks. But as Roger stated, they are more money.
