I don't think anyone said not to use it in water. If you had water up to your windshield i'm guessing your talking about your hummer and i'm sure it had a snorkel kit. Most ppl don't have snorkel kits on there daily drivers. So if they got into water as deep as there windshield i'm sure they'd have to shut down there engines. Which is why ppl was talking about the not being able to use it in deep water situations. As to me and mounting winches. I know you asked for a clean look but i don't care what the vehicle is if it's got a big nasty winch hanging out front i drool. After seeing where your from i'd start looking around i'm sure your seeing others with winches out front. Just take some notes and try to take a peek at what system they are using as a mount. Visit some local off-road shops or shops that install those kinda parts and i'm sure they'd have at least some pics.
Super Duty's have Hydro-Boost brakes and a MileMarker hydraulic winch won't work because of that, I asked MM when I bought my truck. I have a MM 12K on my Bronco and it pulls a little slow but will pull all day until the PS fluid boils (I switched to synthetic for this reason).
Warn makes quality mounts, I have a Warn bumper on my Bronco. I went with Reunel on my SD though.
I don't care for the spacer kit from warn...looks like a fat lip. and you lose the fogs.
After gedtting stuck pretty deep in icy mud last saturday, I have been looking at a bullbar and hidden winch mount.
Remember, 8K lb truck stuck in mud, etc adds a lot more power to move than the weight of the truck, i.e., rolling resistance, vertical lifts, off camber, etc. Meaning a 9.5K is stressed by a PSD 4x4.
