I replaced the 4way flat plug with the Ford Accessory 7-way round plug on my 2004 Ford Heritage SCAB 4.2. Everything works except the trailer battery charging circuit. I have checked all the underhood fuses that are indicated in the owners manual. Am I missing a fuse or switch.
Have you actually hooked it up to a trailer? Mine won't put out any voltage unless the harness is plugged in and the truck actually detects the draw of a battery to charge.
On my supercrew, the charging circuit is live as long as the ignition is in the "on" position. Is this truck equipped with factory tow package? If it is the charging relay may not be in the fuse box under the hood. All factory tow package trucks come with two relays and a harness in the glove box, 1 relay is for the brake controller and the 2nd relay is for the charging line to the connector at the hitch and the harness is to connect your brake controller to the truck via a harness next to the steering column. If your truck is not factory towing, then you will need to add the charging circuit to the connector at the hitch. Hope this helps!
I bought the brake controller harness and it pugged in to the dash fine and I have brakes at the trailer. I will see which relay I am missing. I thought that I looked and they were all there. I do not have the OEM tow package. Check out my gallery for pics. Thanks so much for the help.
I checked my underhood fuse and relay box and i am missing the charge relay for the trailer system. Thanks for steering me I checked the fuses which I have but, not the relays. Thanks I will be visiting the dealership as they look to be unique ford relays not a bosch standard five or four plug.
I'm not 100% sure but the charging wire may not be in the harness if the truck is not factory towing package. You may need to add it in, which is now big deal, I had to do that with my old Explorer. I would get the relay that you need and try it, the wire may be there.
