ok it is a 94 taurus with the 3.8l v6 and according to the haynes manual it is on the firewall...WELL I HATE TO SAY IT BUT HAYNES IS WRONG!!! i looked anywhere in the engine compartment that i could possibly see with my 2 eyes and a flashlight and i cant find it ...
i found the tfi ignition module recessed into the pass side firewall which has a similar connector to the map sensor but no vaccuum line ...
this thing is aCting up just like my dads crown vic did when his map went south but i cant find it on this car
Does it even have a MAP?
I can't remember for sure but I think that on a 94 they may use MAF instead.
The MAF sensor is in between the air cleaner and the throttle body.
well it has a rough idle ... and sometimes stalls, most importantly under hard accelation it stumbles and does the whole snap crackle pop out the exaust... but if you ease on the gas it will move right along down the road
the check engine light goes on and off sometimes last time i checked the codes...there were like 3 different ones all suggestion a lean fuel mixture ... when we first got the car the o2 sensor wires had been melted and may have been shorted from contacting the exaust...the o2 sensor has since been replaced with a good one
(FWIW, the supercharged 3.8L, as well as the 3.0/3.2L SHO engine, use both a BARO sensor and an MAF, which is kinda rare. On these you will find a BARO sensor on the firewall, and apparantly a lot of people mistake it for a MAP).
plugs i changed shortly after we got the car which was just shy of 2 yrs ago as far as the fuel filter i havent done anything with that yet...
ive never messed with one of these maf jobs before what is involved to clean it ?? just some form of a solvent and clean out the inside of the air inlet that it mounts on or what ...ive never even seen the inside of one of these before its all new to me ....
and its not supercharged...its just a lil old lady station wagon but thanks for thinking of me rockledge
i am here to bow at the feet of racerguy and rockledge ....turns out the maf was crudded up beyond belief ..but thanks to the link from rockledge i got it cleaned up and seems to be running great and you want to talk about power compared to before nothing but hesitation...also changed the plugs wires and fuel filter while i was at it ... but many thanks...
