First off, shame on you for not purchasing from a reputable dealer and sponsor on FTE. You could have saved your self some $$ and grief by purchasing a quality system from one of the many sponsors here, and if you had a problem later, although doubtful, they would be more than willing to help you out. I can't say the same for a Joe-Shmo on an internet auction site. Who knows where that system/parts came from. The MBRP Brand that we sell only come with a 3.5" DP for the 6.0Ls. That's because when they were developing the system back in early 2003 they found that about 15% of the 4" Down Pipes had clearance issues. They found that they didn't have these problems with the 3.5" DP and it even gets a little better performance than the 4".
Do not weld the exhaust to any part of the truck. Doing so will only increase the noise not to mention a host of other problems that you will encounter. Everything on the exhaust should be free with no contact anywhere except for the rubber hangers.
Hog Performance Exhaust makes a all 4" system, and they have a video for install where you have to push out the firewall in a certain spot to clear the 4" downpipe.
I have the magnaflow 4" kit and had no clearance issues or rubbing. The only thing I had to modify was a small sheet metal screw that was coming from the inside. But that was more to aid getting out the old one then the new one.
