For those of you who have installed the bigger downpipe was it as big a pain as I've heard. I already have the 4 inch cat back, which has been converted to straight pipe all the way. But I swear it just don't look like there is enough room for the 4 inch down pipe.Any recomendations.
IIRC Stock down pipe is 3 inch, 3.5 inch is an upgrade, 4 inch will not fit without denting it up carefully in the right places and you need it up high on a hoist to get the sucker in there from what I have heard.
I can't really recommend one or another. The exhaust was put on just before I got the truck. I don't know what kind it is. I believe it is a cheap one whatever it is. It leaks exhaust fumes into the cab, and I suspect that connection.
It would also be nice to remove the down pipe. This thing is clamped with a U style clamp and I can't get it apart without cutting it, which I almost did a time or two. If possible use a band clamp so you can get it apart, if needed.
So I guess I would recommend a good quality pipe with a nice flange that will seal at the turbo, and band clamp it.
I have the Diamond Eye 4" downpipe, got it on Amazon. Good stuff IMO. Was a little tricky getting it in but not as bad as some have said. Takes some patience. Had to remove a small piece of the insulation on the firewall and I did dent it in just a bit down low. Very tight but went right in then. Originally bought an MBRP 3.5" downpipe then decided on the 4" before I installed the 3.5". Still have the MBRP 3.5" if anyone is interested. Never installed but I did paint it with silver VHT high temp paint.
I have a 4in downpipe. Didnt have any issue installing, or later on when I removed my turbo.
I bought a 2 piece down pipe off ebay and then ran my hillbilly stack out the bed. It works, and sounds absolutely wicked at full honk.
I have a diamond eye 5" system with a 4" down pipe. Fit Right in with no carnage to the cannot insulation. The pipe was 2 pieces so getting the alignment perfect was no problem. The clamp is just below the exhaust manifold and easy to get at.

Should have been ..... With no carnage to cab or insulation.
I have a 3-1/2in MBRP down pipe on mine. I didn't install it myself, but can tell by looking, that it was not a hard job to do. Plenty of room, but I can see where anything much larger would be a little tight. Not sure what just having that on there and nothing else performance wise does, but the sound of that turbo whistle sure is a lot more noticeable over the stock down pipe.
I have a Flo~Pro 4" two-piece down pipe and it was slightly dented in the right spot to clear the protruding fire wall bolt. Other than devising a way to hold it in place it was actually pretty easy to install and fit nicely.
