smoked engine

My friend has a 1997 Lincoln Continental with a 4.6 DOHC with 125000 miles that had the fuel pump and intake manifold gasket replaced 5 days ago. It over heats and trash the engine according to the dealer. I think that there is more to it and would appreciate any advice or what to check for. There is no water in the oil and when started up makes alot of engine clattering noise. thanks.

sounds like thay left a air pocket in the engine.which cause the overheating problem.seeings how they had the intake off ,and your freind didnt take it in for that problem.i think your freind is getting snowed.

I-M tech what would you recommend as far as proving the dealer messed up on the installation?

there is a vent plug that is on the front/passenger sideon top of the coolant manifold that has to be removed to vent the air out, quarter size retchet hole, while filling up the coolant system.if you dont do this a pocket of air will keep the coolant from circulating through the engine ,and will cause the engine to overheat.the reson i know this is it has happened to me at the dealership.if the tech was watching the temp gauge he would of caught the temp. gauge pegging.i dont know how you would prove it.if the computer set a code for the overheating then it would have a code, but there is no time stamp on the exact time this happened.they could clear the code and you wouldnt know the diff.it would be nice if they would fes up to causing the problem, but not likely.good luck and let me know how things turn out.
