Ranger......GT???
www.geocities.com/this_sucks31645/GTpage.html
When I bought my house in 2000, the neighbors up the street had a 80's Ranger with this package on it. It looked like it had been parked there for a very long time and didn't run. I remember thinking what a waste of a good truck.
It got towed away a couple weeks later.

ranger gt's do exist. they came from the factory that way. they were produced in very limited numbers... at one point i had heard as low as 2000, and as high as about 4000.
my dad bought one off the showroom floor at what used to be Sheehy Ford in Lebanon Pa - now Chapman Ford. anyways... it was priced out at i think close to $15k... far to expensive to sell to the kids that were into that sort of truck, and it had too much on it that most older men prob. wouldnt be into... enter my father in mid-life crisis mode
His is (he still has it to this day - it's the one that ken posted on the 1st page) 2D scarlet red, with the scarlet red interior. it has the power lumbar, with the moveable thigh bolster. brushed alum. finish dash panels, and did i mention that everything is RED! from what i have gathered, it is very similar to the stx package as far as the interior goes.
the exterior had the full wrap around molded ground effects kit, including front and rear bumper covers. the "ranger gt" is molded in under the door skirting, just like on the 80's era mustang gt. all of the exterior trim is either painted red - like the grille, or black - windshiled trim, door and tailgate handles, antenna, etc. i am almost positive that all of the graphics packages were dealer applied... at one point i had spoken with a graphics/pin stripe installer, and he vaguely remembered intalling the ones on dad's truck.
i have seen them in long and short beds, with most of theones that i've seen being long bed. they were produced in very low numbers in 87 and 89, with more produced in 88 (like dads) i "think" the 88's came in red, white or black, and i remember the 89's coming in a navy blue as well. at one point, i saw a navy blue/silver one, with the body kit being silver. it also has a unique exhaust tip, it is approx. 6 or 7" wide, by maybe 2" tall, that produces a different tone to it. somehow, after replacing the exhaust twice now i think, he has had the tip cut off, and attached to the replacement exhaust.
other than having the engine replaced several years ago, his is virtually stock as it came from the factory. i mananged to mangle the fender on it back in 1992 going to take my SAT's, and to this day, it still is. at all the seams wehre the body kit is next to the body, rust has been forming as well as the rear fenderwells. i would love to have it basically restored back to original, sans all the goofy striping... but don't have the means to right now
his has the 2.9 w/ 5spd, and i am almost certain i remember a tag or paper somewhere saying that it had a 4.10 rear in it.
it has definately seen better days, a little crunch here, a little rust there... the interior is faded to lovely shades of orange on the doorpanels.... but i don't forsee him getting rid of it anytime soon.... i'd love to at one point, just to bring it back to its glory, and preserve a small fleeting attempt at a factory "sport" truck...
if i can try to answer anything else about them... let me know, i'll see what i can come up with. i'll see if i can dig up some other pics of it. i actually drove it from 89-92/93 or so, all thru highschool, so i was intimately familiar with it.
.... like grabbing rubber in 1, 2 and 3
shhhhhhhh
