I am going to install a pre-turbo pyro on my '95 F250 7.3L. What locations have you used, how hard to install (drill, tap, etc.), any problems with the location (running wires, not getting good readings, in the way of other maintenance work or repairs, etc.). I am leaning towards installing it in the connector from the up pipes to the turbo housing. Has anyone used this location? Is it to far from the maniflods? Any problems with this location? Any and all information will be appreciated.
ive got mine in that last section of pipe that goes into the turbo. i think its the best location becase its the only place your gonna get both heads. i drilled almost all the way through with a 1/8" bit then drilled all the way through with the drill bit that i needed for 1/4"npt tap. right before i knew i was gonna break through i started the truck to blow the shavings out as it went through. i did use a brass bushing to go into the manifold so just incase i had to get it out later the thermocouple will come out of the brass much better than the cast. i just used pipe thread sealer that is used on steam lines and it dosnt leak at all.
Mine is about 3" back of where 1997F-350 put his. I used a clamp on stuly probe in the up-pipe. Super easy. No taps, no thread sealant, just a 1/8" hole a washer and a clamp.
Might have been a 1/4" hole....it was almost five years ago.
