I now have had my 06 F350 PSD Torqueshift for 1 week now. One thing that I find annoying is the cruise control. It seems awfully slow to lock in on your speed. My previous truck (GM) would lock in as soon as the cruise button was hit. The F350 takes several seconds to respond. If I take my foot off the pedal the truck slows, and then cruise kicks in after a few seconds, brings speed up, and usually overshoots.
Is this a Ford thing, or might there be a component problem (VSS maybe)?
My '05 is the same way. It's a slight irritant, but I attribute it to the power characteristics of the diesel and the fly-by-wire system for throttle.
Try this... engage the cruise but keep your foot on the pedal. Gently back out of it (2-3 seconds). The cruise will figure things out and you won't have the dropoff in speed.
I think it is a PSD thing. With my all of my other gasser's the cruse immediatly took over but with my PSD the first thing I noticed was that if you set it then let off the throttle it will let it slow down a bit before the cruse kicks in and pulls the truck back to speed.
Thank you gents for the information. I experimented with it today, and got the best results when I engaged the control with speed decreasing. i.e. I would speed up to 95 (km/hr!) and let it fall back to 90 and then push the "set" button. It picked up much better this way.***** M
I dunno if your truck is new or not but its not recommended (even in the manual) to use the cruse for the 1st thousand miles. holding a brand new engine at a constant rpm for extended time frames isnt the best for breaking them in.
Same here. 04' auto and the cruise is a pain. My 99 7.3 did not have this problem. Cruise worked great. The 99' would pull our 3 horse gooseneck up small hills at 75mph without downshifting, but not the cruise on the 04'. It just doesn't keep up.
Thanks Bone for the break-in caution. The truck is new, but my periods of cruise control use are very short. I haven't done a long trip yet, no more than 30km in a trip so far.
Thanks Bone for the caution on engine break-in. The truck is new, but my periods of cruise control use are very short. I'm still playing with this thing and getting used to it.

No problem, I hope you enjoy you PSD as much as I enjoy mine. if ya ever have questions you have come to the right place.
My 01 does not have this problem. Just set it and it takes it. No drop or surge. But I did do the accelerator mod. Maybe that is the cure, but I don't remember it happening before.
