I have a 2001 F350 7.3l diesel dually. I love this truck. It has more then enough power for me. I have only one problem with it. The cruise control is causing me problems. I engage the cruise control, it comes on, I start to release my foot from the peddle and the cruise control turns off. Now I thought maybe I was releasing the peddle too fast so I released it cool hand slow and still cruise control turns off. Was wondering if somebody knows what the problem is as the cylmer repair manual says nothing about this problem.
Could be your brake pedal position sensor that is bad, making the system think you have the brakes on, which would then keep the cruise control disengaged.

I had a problem like, and worst than that. Mine would do the same thing, then stoped working all together. I had a brake fluid leak and could not find a fitting or hose leaking. Finally I found the leak coming from the cruise pressure sensor on the brake booster. Yep, leaking through the wireing clip. Changed that part 20.00 at dealer and I have full function of cruise control.
This might not be your problem, but something to check. Good luck.
Try this test:
Diagnosing/Resetting the Cruise-Control operations:
1. fully engage parking brake. Make sure brake peddle is released.
2. Begin static portion of self test by pressing and holding speed control off switch.
3. Turn ignition switch from off to run. The cruise indicator on the instrument cluster will flash once to indicate the speed control module has entered diagnostic mode.
If the cruise indicator does not flash repeat steps 1-3. If the cruise indicator still does not flash, diagnose the cruise indicator.
4. Release the off switch
5. The cruise indicator will flash when each switch is pressed. While performing self test. Press each switch in the order described while observing cruise indicator for a flash. Note any switch activations that does not cause a flash.
Within five seconds of turning the ignition switch to RUN:
Press the on switch.
Press the resume switch.
Press the coast switch.
Press the set/accel switch.
6. NOTE: the on switch must be pressed within five seconds after entering the diagnostics mode or the speed control module will return to normal operating state and self-test must be repeated.

Wow, that's just the kind of diagnostic info we need here. Points for you.
Thanks for all the information. Tried the diagnostics, but they did not work. Wouldn't flash the cruise light. Changed the brake pressure sensor. Took truck for drive, still doing the same thing. Might have to take the truck to Ford. Aaaack huge bill here we come.
I had the same problem with my 2005. Found that the cruise control "on" button was sticking. When ever I went to turn the cruise on the button would stick and as soon as I hit the "set" button the cruise woud turn off. Found an easy touch on the "on" button helps plus cleaning.
My master Cyl level contol switch was bad also... Easy test, unplug it and put a jumper wire in the plug, test drive. If it fixed then the $18 sensor is bad.
I too am having issues with my cruise on my 04 F250. I performed the diagnostic and it stopped flashing at the resume switch. Am I correct in that I have a faulty brake light switch? And if so what does it look like and where is it located?
Thanks for any help.

2000 Ford F-350 Cruise control would kick off and quit working completely, I was at the Ford dealership getting my oil changed and bought the $18 sensor for the master cylinder. I changed it when I got home and noticed it had all ready been changed before but it fixed my cruise control, So I guess it will work for a little while longer. The guy at the dealership told me that Ford may extend the recall on those pigtails for that sensor before it was over. I checked once before and they said that none of the diesels was being recalled but they might get recalled yet.
