I am looking at a 76 f-250 highboy, I test drove it,looked it over, and talked at length about this trucks history and the only thing i am worried about on this truck is a moderate vibration from the engine between say, 2000 and 3000 rpm's. It doesnt really sound like a miss but i could be wrong. I am leaning tward something on the crank though. This is on a 360,mt,4bbl and it is running electronic ignition. Buy the way the owner never really noticed it and was no help resolving the problem. Any help is always appriceated.
is there any way it could be something on the crank? Harmonic balancer, main bearings? If it where something like that woldnt the engine be junk by now. It has been sitting for a few months but the motor seems to run good othere than the shake. Thanks for the help guys
Man, I tell you there are some touchy people here that just love to post negative feedback for piddly things...
I've had some problems with vibrations too - actually a number of them as far as I can tell. The most annoying one is when I'm one the freeway and I get this drone vibration that sometimes seems to rattle the entire truck -I finally figured out that it's in the driveline, but not a balance issue, I think it's a problem with the axle moving - does this more times than not, but occasionally rides nice and smooth. You may want to check out your driveline. My engine vibrates too at a stand still, but that's when she's cold and the disintegrating window channels don't help. -Just another suggestion to look into. It's always best to figure out the problem before swapping stuff on...but I'm quite guilty of that myself..err...
