Hi. This is the second truck I've had to have the temperture switch for th the heaer-A/C replced. Firt, my 99 F-150 (by the dealer) and now my 98 needs it too. The **** gets totally loose and does nothing. I used to be able to press in on it and turn it back and forth several times to "build pressure or add resistance"...strange I know!!! Anyway, now that I'm gonna replace it myself, I was hoping someone could tell me the procedure for getting to it to remove. I'd rather ask here than just start to take the parts off the dash because I'd rather not guess and break one of the plastic pieces.
It's not just the **** that's cracked where it goes onto the shaft? That's pretty common.
To access the controls you need to pull off the trim panel around the radio/heater controls. Turn the panel vents in and put your fingers in beside the vent and just pull the panel straight off.
If it never came off before, it will be stubborn, but resist the urge to pry it off with any tools, as the dashboard panels are black plastic painted to color.
