KW...ok, got it now. For those who have not posted 2,644 times like KW, or have not ever dealt with a diesel with an EGR valve (my GMs and early VW's did not), or are dumb like me, he means...unplug from the ERG Valve, go down to Ford and spend $130 or so bucks to get a new one, plug it into the plug that would send the CEL signal that something was wrong with the EGR valve, zip tie it so it won't fall out (because the original is still in the engine, I would assume...again, I have only posted under 100 times) and then it won't throw codes. Now I got, I think.
So, based on what PSD has said, the '05 (my CA model) will not throw a code when the dummy EGR valve is plugged in, but the '06 will? Right?
Right...unless Matt corrects me on this.
BTW: Don't belittle yourself. You are not dumb. You were smart enough...just to ask.
As a side note: We all know that there is no dumb question, right? I would just like to add that while that statement is generally true...some of the answers can sure be dumb enough...
Can the SCT disable this scalar, and leave rest of the tuning close to stock?
I am planning on never running the EGR, but don't like warning lights and would like to maintain the ability of the CEL to warn me if something is really wrong.

Thanks KW...that is in good old plain English. Thanks! Now, comes the big bad stealership. I probably should re-install the EGR factory set up before any warranty work is needed, right? These days, it seems they are looking for reasons to not do warranty work.
I unplugged mine about a month ago (05 Calif.) and the CEL went on after driving a few miles so I plugged it back in. The CEL went out by it self after a couple of days. Maybe it has a auto reset after so many key on/off cycles?, as long as its plugged back in and working properly.
An 06 with mass air can detect actual EGR flow along with the valve position and status, so a "dummy" will not prevent the CEL.
If the EGR system is to be removed or disabled, the code with either have to be manually disabled in scalars or simply lived with.
I have a '05 with cal. specs and I put a blank plate in the y tube wher the exuast enters the egr cooler and drilled two small holes in it to let a little flow and the stays off most of the time.
Thanks for all the info. I did disconnect the battery and the CEL went off briefly. It is now back on. I would assume the only disadvantage of driving with the CEL on is if there is another non related issue with the truck and the CEL is on, you wouldn't know it.
Is the dummy EGR discussed in prior posts a non working valve offered by Ford? Do they manufacture this as a remedy to the issue at hand? If so would they have a flash to disable the code as an alternative?
KW...see the confusion regarding the word "dummy"...makes it sound like a valve with no guts in it, sorta a unit that matches up with the right pin settings and locations.
Brick...a dummy EGR valve is another EGR valve, just like the one mounted into your engine now that will then be plugged in to the connector plug that you have taken out of the EGR valve. The dummy part is that the computer thinks there is an EGR valve hooked up to the connector plug, so then it won't throw codes. You need to visit your friendly dealer and order an EGR valve and they will be happy to take your money.
As other post have indicated, the unplugging would be considered an EPA no no, and is in no way a remedy that Ford would support (at least not publicly...maybe secretly they would like to throw the thing in the river ). I would assume that the only way to get rid of the CEL, since you did not hook up the "dummy" valve, is to reconnect it, take it to the dealer, have them clear the code, buy a dummy valve, take it home and then follow the directions that KW above laid out.
