Saturday I installed new plugs/wires on my truck, along with a new gasket at the carb base. Everything went well. I disassembled as little as possible in the process. Now the air pump has seized up. Is there any other explanation other than the bearrings just decided to go now. Coincidence????? Or could it be something I did. How much is a reman pump?
I doubt it was anything you did, it probably was just coincidence( it is a 20+ year old truck after all). I don't know about the price on a reman, as inspection stations here are pretty lenient on the visual portion of the smog test, as long as it will pass the sniffer-I have left mine off.
I think they have those stupid lifetime sealed bearing that you can't lubricate. My truck has 2 air pumps, and 1 of them was seized when I got it. A new pump costs about $300, while the reman was $30-$50 I believe. I leave the belt off of the pumps though, only putting it on for the smog test.
I'm not concerned about any smog tests.
So, If I leave the belt off the pump will I need to make any adjustments or should the motor run the same with our without it?
the truck will run fine without it but if you have a cat it will ruin the cat. the air pump injects air into the system to assist the cat burn leftover fuel.

Good point, I don't need cats, so I didn't even think about that.
