1956 Ford F-100 4X4 Chassis

Hello,
I just joined and have a 1956 Ford F-100 with a 78 Volare front end and a 78 plymouth fury rear axle With a 78 305 monte carlo engine. Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew of a 4x4 chassis that lined up with a 56 f-100. If anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated I am looking to converting my truck to a 4x4.
Thanks

Welcome to FTE.

I've not seen a setup like that on here. Not to say someone here hasn't doesn it, I just haven't seen it. If it has been done, someone here with the more modern trucks (1953+) will probably know about it and there will be plenty of folks to assist with advice and suggestions.

I'm in the process of having a chop shop mount my '56 F-100 cab and bed on my '78 F-150 shortbed 4x4. So far, everything warned about on this list has come true. Cab and bed must be mounted 1 1/2" above the frame to make everything line up. It's waaay up there, but taking off the '78 factory high boy blocks will bring it down some.

A '78 F-150 short bed has the same wheelbase as a '56 F-100 longbed. But, my '56 is a short bed, so it's getting chopped.

Welcome to the forum. I am not an expert on the frame conversion so I'll let the real experts give you their wisdom on this one.

That is sweet. I really like it. IF that is what you are shooting for, I'm rooting for you.

Under my 53 F100 I have a 72 Jeep Wagoneer 4x4 frame which has a similar length 110" wb. I purchased the truck this way and it looks like someone went through a ton of trouble to do the swap with fabricating all new cab and box mounts along with radiator supports. I wish mine had the original frame. Want to trade?

I would use the original frame and just build a front end and t/c mounts to fit. An early Bronco ('70-77) D44 should be about the right width. You would have to eliminate the track bar mounts and add leaf spring mounts.

Years ago my brother and I converted a 1960 F-100 short bed to a 4x4. We used the engine and running gear from a1975 F-150 that my brother had wrecked. We used a universal engine munt kit for the engine and fabricated our own tc mount (tc = transfercase) It was tons of work but came out ok.
I think your best bet would be to add add the 4x4 stuff to your frame as opposed to swapping the body onto another chassis.

Good luck with it. It will make a mean looking rig
