Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking in the shadows for a while and finally got around to posting. Seems like a good group of guys in here and a lot of good information.
You guys ever break anything in pulling competitions? My dad gave me his old 78 F150 and Im ordering a 460 for it. Im pretty sure itd be a good match up with some guys at school but Im afraid Im going to break something.
no pulling stories but i've got a pushing story front bumper to front bumper. 1982 F100 300 I6 vs 1985 chevy scottsdale 305 v8 in the hyvee parking lot. the chevy belongs to a guy i used to know from school, i parked my truck and went in to the store when i came out his truck was parked in the spot right in front of mine. i got in my truck started her up and began backing out and he started pulling forward and hit my bumper he reved her up with a smile on his face. i threw my rig in drive and floored it we were both throwing smoke my tires never stoped spining but i shoved him out of the way and took off.
lol...that reminds me off my pushing stories. In my buddies beat up Bronco with a tired, tired 302, 1980 and 30" tires against a Chevy reg. cab pickup. The Chevy was a 1981, with a tired 350. We pushed him from the back, when he was in reverse, and when we had them front to front, we pushed him again. Heck, we lined them up, and the gutless 302 kicked the crap outta his 350. Chevy power
My mom's babied 2000 Silverado has dragged the guy across the street's F-150 down the alley before with smoke flying everywhere. Very cool to watch. Some idiot left a VW Bug parked at the high school one night soon after I had gotten all my new parts in. Drove home, got the old bumper, bolted it back on, and pushed the bug over the top of a hill where it rolled down into the baseball fields in a 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0L. Never thought it would work, amused the hell out of everyone there.
heres a question for u pulling guys i got a 7.3 and this kid in my night clases is always hounding me to hook up trucks tellin me his mopar is better than ford and all this crap his truck is a 94 or 95 2500 v8 not sure what size. my trucks an auto and the e4od is an expensive tranny should i jsut hook up wiht him and put him in his place or what i am jsut nervous about my tranny cause i tihnk its the original one
The Bronco (with its shorter frame, and full cabin) will have a fair bit more weight over the rear axle than the pickup.
True...but it sure was funny as hell to see this tired 350 barely able to even manage spinning the tires in reverse with us steadily pushing him from the front
Theres no point in hooking up trucks. There are sooo many variables, that it could be either way almost everytime.
Well I went to watcha couple buddys tonight hook together. 98 or 99 1500 with a 360 and a 1991 ford F-250 with a 351 were the trucks. First the dodge was getting some, then the ford let off the gas and held the brakes for second so the dodge would spin and the ford went again this time forward the dodge tried the same thing but it didnt work for him lol. All in all the Ford won. It was in a field not on the street. Afterward we all went fourwheelin', good stuff.
^How could that be considered fair? The point is to pull each other to test the power and traction of the trucks. Hitting the brakes and waiting for it to spin kinda ruins that concept. Its like ricers who race someone and lose, but when the car that was ahead slows down the ricer goes screaming bye and flashes there hazards and tells their buddies that they won the race.
It wasnt a life or death pull it was for "fun" it was an inside thing for fun not because one thought he could outpower the other one. As you read we all went fourwheelin' afterward. It was all in fun.
Yep I think if it had been on the road the ford would win. I drove both of them and the ford feels like it has some more than the dodge. I have never watch a deisel pull (other than sleds) anyone have any stories of turbo desiels losing in a pull with a gas truck.
