There's a good video of a new Duramax and Cummins doing a tug of war. It was funny, at first the Duramax pulls the Dodge but the Dodge then spools up and pulls the Duramax, and then it goes back the other way when the Dodge lets off and the Duramax spools. Pretty crazy to see a 3/4 truck spinning all 4 tires at the same time on pavement.
I've hooked a 84 blazer, 00 landrover and a newer jeep wrangler. All three were on dirt, the toughest one was the blazer, the wrangler was easy as cake.
My buddy has a 93 z/71 reg cab long bed, 5.7 w/ 3.73's. He said he'd hook me in 2wd on dirt, I'm not sure if I'll hook him or not cause I dont think I can pull him. He's got around 175k miles and I have a little over 168k.
When I still had my old truck, I couldn't convince anyone to come out and play with my truck???
There was one guy in HS that thought he was the stuff with a '95 Z71 w/ a 350 and he said he'd drag me around like a wagon. I asked him if he was sure and he kept balking about it, and so I told him to hook up and I backed up to him and he chickened out when I was talking and laughing with my buddies to the side when I said he doesn't know I have a 460--he had thought I had a 302 the whole time....and didn't believe I had a 460 until it came time to get down to business with a chain and $100... That was the easiest $100 I've ever made--by default at that! He got in his big bad Z71 and took off like a bat out of hell--typical loser's response, right? Oh well, no one wanted to 'play' anymore after that. Now since I've got the new F-250 diesel though some of the old boys think they can pull me around in their beat up 4x4's since I'm now only a 4x2, but I am not going to test Ford's warranty coverage on a busted rear end, so I just politely decline before it gets as serious as it did before.
I did pull a '99 Z-71 out of a ditch and he was in neutral, he got stuck there because of GM's wonderful electric hub and 4x4 engagement design. My old F-250 didn't even break a sweat.
Speaking of 4 wheels spinning on pavement...
I saw this vid with this '96 reg. cab PSD, against a '02-'05 Dodge. The Dodge and the Ford weren't moving anywhere just spinning on completely dry pavement in 4 wheel drive, then the Dodge nailed his brakes, and the Ford just kept spinning. Then the Ford started swaying back and forth on the rope, it was awesome, with all 4 just smoking like crazy, then the Dodge would start pulling, but just spin, then hit the brakes. The Dodge did that like 4 times.
Was the Dodge a Diesel too? I'd think the weight difference would give it to the Dodge but those 7.3's are stout motors. Its crazy to see that happen though!
No, the Dodge was a quad cab, and if he really wanted to, probably would have pulled the Ford all over the place, for weight reasons. The 7.3L is an awesome engine for sure! Just watching it spin in 4x4 and smoking all 4 tires while sliding back and forth, from side to side on the end of that rope was pretty cool. If I could remember the site, I'd link it...
well, when i was a weee little tike, in the early '80s we lived out in the country. My dad had to remove a stump to make way for a garden. They had that thing dug out from all around and most of the large roots sliced. They had it chained to the frame of an old beat up late 60's ford pickup(two tone green). That poor truck couldn't budge it. It was interesting to watch the wheels spin, fruitlessly. And a couple running yanks only lifted the trucks rear and jarred the poor metal panels. Eventually, it took some explosives to move that old stump.
Last year I pulled a 6 foot tall sapling from my front yard with my '78 F150 and rope. I know it was overkill, but it was still fun.
I also used my '78 F150 and rope to topple two 20 foot trees in my front yard earlier this year. Now that was nerve racking. But eventually those trees came down.
The only other type of pullin lately, is my restored antique boat, when I pull it to the lake. hehehehehe
At my local community college's shop class last year a kid brought in a little hundai car that his brother got into a wreck with. Anyways the car had got creamed in the front drivers side fender and tweaked the unibody/frame. Well my shop teacher wanted to straighten it so we chained the right side behind the front wheel to a concrete filled pipe stuck in the ground (don't know how far) and then hooked my pickup (95 powerstroke 4x4 auto tranny) up to the very front of the drivers side.
I put it in drive and started pulling and spun my rear tires (my tires are 285/75/r16 Yokohoma Geolander all-terrains). So then I put it in 4x4 high and started pulling again and spun all 4 tires! Finally I had to back off and jerk the chain to straighten that car out.
Yesterday at work me and this other guy were talking about our older trucks, how much work we have done to them, their reliability, this an that. And this new guy (damn city slicker) who has been there maybe a few months comes up to me and starts calling my truck (84 F150 4wd) a pile of junk and says it's weak...and just going on talking trash. I asked him what he had to run against my truck. My 96 Toyota 4Runner! He said, I died...I was laughing soo hard my face turned red and my gut hurt! I said "for one your truck is a bone stock 3.4 V6 with over 200k on it, you don't stand a chance!" "For two you have nothing on my 300 (Pillar of Power) for low end pulling power or torque...Hell an empty hay wagon would put up a better fight than your Toyota"! He insisted he could beat me, hell I think my 95 GMC Jimmy could mop the deck with that Yota! Today I drove the ol Ford into work today, and yep he chickened out...damn city slickers! I would have love to drag that rice burner's excuse for a truck around the block a few times!
story 1. A 1960 something ford bus with a 332 an 4 gear on the pullin sled at the tractor pulls. attempt #1 pulled the back bumper off of the bus. attempt #2 pulled the sleigh about 5 feet then broke the 3/8" chain.
story #2 My 86 F150 4X4 302 5 gear in the plowed field chained to a John Deere model A. . . . . we were dead even Then we tried on the grass . . . . . Not so even, I got spanked badly. Lots of fun though. I could pull the disc faster around the field than the deere :-)
I just lost a pull about 10.5 hours ago. It was on pavement, me Vs. a 93 Z/71 reg cab long bed. He was in 2wd since my truck isnt 4X4. It wasnt too bad, whenever we both punched it, we spun the tires, only he pulled me a backwards and I layed on the brakes. But I couldnt budge him, just kept roasting the tires. Open diffs arent very ideal for hooking.
I wasn't expecting to win, He's got a 350 and 3.73 L/S, compared to my 300 w/ 3.08 open diffs. I needed atleast 3.55 L/S to compete with him.
