Injector pump problem

I just got my IP rebuilt for my 89 7.3 IDI. Got on their good and got all the air out of the system and when i went to fire it up it acted like the throttle was gassed all the way. turned the key and pulled out but truck didnt die. truck was blowin more black smoke than anything ide ever seen. i eventually had to pull the FSS out to kill it. I assume its some minor hook up that i messed up but dont know, the throttle cable worked when i put it on so dont know.
Thanks for any help

Where did you get the new IP......... Was the fast idle set too high. You say you removed the key from the ignition and it still required the removal of the FSS to shut it down.........I would think ignition key problem possibly.

Throttle cable hookup ?? did you put the return spring(s) on the IP lever.....
