Carb problem?

I dont really know what this could be but here goes.

This morning my truck (1984 F-150 351/c) started right up just fine despite it being freezing cold outside.

I have a carb, it's en edelbrock and i know the CFM's is around 1000 or above
(Use it to pull heavy loads).

Well this morning after i started it up i noticed that i stepped on the gas pedal and it cut out and died.
I pop the hood and smoke is rolling out of the breather so i took it out and inside the carb is smoke.
The throttle is wide open even tho the gass isnt pressed.
I look under the pedal and the throttle line is broke under it.
So i rigged up a spring to the carb to pull back on the throttle so i can drive it home without worrying the throttle will stick.

But ever since i go to start it and it chugs, spits, backfires, and it shoots gasoline out of the top of it.

Even with the engine running the temp is usually does (about 200F), it dies, and seems weak and chugs on me.

I cleaned it with carb cleaner and it worked for aobut 2 minutes then it died on me.

And when i shut it off, it runs for about 5 more seconds but very rough (Have a Electronic Ignition Switch setup, so it acts as a killswitch to shut the engine off).
Even when i kill the engine it will run for a few seconds and the exhaust builds up then releases and you can hear it coming out of the end of the exhaust.

I have no clue what's wrong if it's a plugged line or too much pressure or what and i dont know how to fix it.
Or if it is even a simple fix.

Thanks and help is much appreciated
-Aaron

EDIT- I dont believe it's a timing problem i just got a new dizzy and cam and distro put on it and new plugs and wires and new timing chain and it was all done by a certified ford mechanic so i doubt it has anything to do with the timing system

You would have a 351M (not C) that needs some serious carb tuning.

Carb tuning as in... how?
It was running perfect this morning. It floods alot now.
I just have no clue what would cause this.
And im pretty sure its a cleveland btw, or it has cleveland heads...
its aftermarket to the truck, not the original engine.
It had a Windsor in it and i did a swap for what i believe to be
the cleveland, or it may be a windsor with cleveland heads.
But im sure ints not a M, actually im positive on this.
And im sure the carb is around 1000cfm's, if it helps at all.
And it's a 4 barrel carb too if that means anything.
Thanks

Sounds like some dirt has gotten into a passage inside the carb.
By the way, the biggest carb Edelbrock makes is either a 750 Performer AFB or a 800 Thunder AVS.

Ya i cleaned it out and it runs good now.
And about the 1000cfm's... its been tinkered with to put that out.
Anyhow, it still kicks off and **** after i cleaned it out.
Still spits gas a little bit but i noticed something...

IT will flood, turn over... die, then it will
turn backwards?
I dont know... but when it does this an aweful lot of smoke comes out, but then wait like 5 seconds and it fires right up.

I doubt its timing,. tho it may be. I just had the timing re-done in the whole thing

That turning backwards is an example of after-run or dieseling. Almost always caused by a mis-adjusted carb. Have a professional look at your carb. A 351M has Cleveland heads on it so does a 400. 1000CFM is WAY WAY too big of a carb for any 350 size engine unless you are running 10,000RPM. An oversize carb is very hard to tune.

If fuel is coming out, then the floats are probably too high.
