my oil cooler is starting to leak externally. i am planning to rebuild it with new o-ring but my question is does any body know if the cooler on a 99 engine is the same. they look to be the same. i have access to one that we took out of a customers truck and paid the core to keep the engine and it cooler tube is not nearly as rusty.
i guess i can call our ford parts people and should be able to find out but i figured the knowledge here surpasses their knowledge.
anybody done this repair before. my repair info all tells me to raise then engine and remove fan shroud and a few other things but i think it could be wiggled out.
no just starting to leak externally on the rear of the tube. not even dripping yet just residue that is getting worse. so i think i will wait till my next oil change to change it since i just changed my oil and while it was on the lift i noticed it. and i have a 99 motor sitting in the shop the we took out of a customers truck so i will rebuild that one then just swap them when i get around to it.
I found a fairly simple way of putting the end caps back on the oil cooler. Put a little grease on the o-rings then lining up the notches on the end caps put it in a high lift jack between the top piece and the jaws and squeeze it together sure beats any other way i could figure out how to do it.
