I used a bungee cord for my "extra set of hands" to hold the down pipe in place until I got the clamp on it.

Nice. When you do this alone, you get creative. Zip ties, a 2x4, and some duct tape held it in for me. Probably after 3 attempts up and down (10 minutes), I got the clamp on.
