towing limits
2003 E 350 extended cargo van, V 10 engine 3:73 rear, factory tow package. What are thetowing limits and do I need a weight dist. hitch for a 7800 lb trailer thanks.

You need the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) which should be on your driver's door and then you subtract your van's fully loaded weight to get the towing capacity remaining. If your trailer weighs 7500lbs your tongue weight should be around 750 lbs. Your trailer hitch should have a label on it to tell you if that exceeds the limit without weight distribution. My guess is that your hitch is rated at 5000lbs (500lbs tongue) without distribution and 10000lbs (1000lbs tongue) with distribution.

Weight distribution is a must with an extended van. Consider using a Reese dual cam system which includes sway control.
An E350 with 6.8l and 3.73 gears is rated for 15,000lbs GCVW and the extended van is rated for a 9,000lb trailer.
