Ok so here is the problem I'm having with my '91 F-150 ext cab 4x4. When I start the truck up, It DIES, or when gets to idle it does sometimes, after revving the gas. But then if it does not die at idle, when I but it in reverse or drive it dies. Then if I drive down the road and stop at the stop sign it again dies. The check engine light comes on but then goes off when I drive it a little. Ok so then when the truck warms up it does not do any of this.
Pull your codes. You can buy a cheap code puller from a parts store or walmart for under $30 or learn how to do it free at www.fordfuelinjection.com
I suspect you IAC is acting up, so If you find your self at the parts store, grab a can of carb cleaner and a Haynes or Chilton manual. They're not great but better than nothing.
hey: Hopefully you don't have a blown engine, can you smell antifreeze when you start it, do you have to press the gas when you start it? maybe you should have it compression tested!!
So after spending the money and changing the the IAC. I took the codes off the truck and still have no idea what they mean and whats going on. The check engine light stays on until I press on the gas pedal, then goes off. After changing the IAC it does not seem like it is going to choke off. Anyways here are the codes. Can someone please help. Thanks
KOEO (key on / engine off) 63 - TPS circuit has intermittently failed below minimum 0.6 volts.
CM (Continues Memory)
31 - PFE or EVP circuit has intermittently failed below minimum voltage of 0.24 volts.
32 - EVP circuit has intermittently failed below minimum voltage of 0.24 volts.
You've got quite a few "below minimum voltage" codes... I'd suspect a supply voltage problem over all these sensors being bad.
The TPS (throttle position sensor) you can ohm out before replacinand see if its bad.
Heres a link to testing it; you'll see other sensors listed to the right. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d800a2cba.jsp
Do you think it could be the PCM that is bad? The problem of it stalling when putting it in drive or reverse hasn't happened since changing the IAC. But when cold starting I have noticed that it revs up then like its going to stall until I put my foot on the gas. It then idles fine after that. Also I have noticed it seems like I'm loosing get up and go, while driving.

I am guessing you have a automatic trans in your 91.
I also have a 91, had to change the TPS, IAC motor and even my module and magnetic pick up coil in the distributor.
I would guess since you are getting TPS low voltage... hit up your local auto parts dealer and get a TPS sensor.
I had a similar problem, with my TPS sensor, it seemed like it wanted to die after it warmed up and the fast idle came down.
Today while coming into work had the same problem as in the begining. I started it up and it shut-off. Then I tried reving it up and when I put it into reverse it shut-off again. This happened 11 times until I finally turned the truck around in my driveway. But I only live 2 miles from work and it ran fine once I was driving. It did not shut-off at the stop lights or anything. But now tonight after work I know it is going to shut-off until I pop it into drive to get going?
And yes it is an automatic. I still have no idea what to do?
I just wanted to say THANK YOU to redrush40 and Popa Tim for all the help you have both given me. Today I changed the TPS sensor and my F-150 runs like new. ( well almost, knock on wood )
