Are there any differneces between the 1979 and 1981 302 V8s that were installed in the F150s? I have an all original 79 F150 and would like to rebuild the motor. I also have access to an in tact 81 motor/transmittion and I'm wondering which one would be better to start with.
The engine mounts should be the same, not sure about the wiring though, rad hoses from the 79 should be used if the 81s are different, fanshroud from 81 would prob be different-use 79, air intake from rad support may be different so use your 79 aircleaner and ducting, check how the exhuast is routed - are the manifolds different?
basically look over both set-ups and see what is different and what you can swap
I swapped a 79 T-bird 302 into my 77F150 and when I ran that eng into the ground I swapped a 79 Granada 302 into its place, I used all my trucks wiring(which was originally for a 460!) and the air cleaner was cleaner from the Granada so I didn't use any air ducting - it just drew air from under the hood. I had to swap frame mounts from the 460 style to the 302 style though and "customize" the driveshaft to work with the T-bird tranny
the truck left me in August.....
