[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Apr-02 AT 08:13 PM (EST)]I found an abondaded junkyard in the woods 20 miles from where I live. There are about ten cars and two trucks.I stumbled upon a 78-79 (probably an 78) F150 Custom. It had the long Flareside bed. It's a Trailer special, and has the free wheeling package. 460 engine and C6, no power steering or brakes. Looks like a delete. Can you say...factory drag truck? 8 track stereo and CB! Also has the sport steering wheel. It has some odd-looking medium blue paint. The free wheeling decals are there, so it must be the factory paint. Seems like a teenager ordered it new and he knew what he wants. POWER and LOOKS! Looks like everything was deleted expect what he wants.
Well, you didn't state where home is but I wouldn't haul it home just yet. In most states that would be considered auto theft. Get the vin number off the truck and check with the state office to see who it is registered to. They should be able to furnish you with the owners name and address.Contact them about the truck and that you would like to have it. If you can't contact or find the owner, check with the registration office about filing for a "QUIT" title. Not all states have these but it lets you legally take possession of a vehicle despite it being registered to someone else. Hope this helps and yes I think it would be worth the effort.
you have a ownership for a 79?
simply change the vins and call the licence office and change the color on the owner ship
tada new truck
no "grand theft auto"
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Apr-02 AT 01:55 AM (EST)]I would ask around to see who owns the property the vehicles are on - possibly check with the local land registry office. It is possible that the land was sold many years ago and the vehicles were left behind - I've heard of it happening around here. Further to that, sometimes the owner is more than willing to sell the stuff - you might have to take them all, but swing a deal with a local salvage yard.
I wouldn't go switching vins or moving vehicles without checking ownership - you never know whos watching!
Sounds like a nice ride. Try to keep it legal - maybe try consulting your local law enforcement.
FYI - try not to rattle too many cages though - you don't want some one else to ****** it. But I would definately recommend Against just hauling it away - its not worth the time if you get caught.
Just some thoughts from the north.
Cheers!
