Small bump - Big Wobble

Just came back from picking up a pizza with my son's 79 F150 4X4. The road is being relayered with new asphalt and when I drove over where it stepped down to older asphalt, a small bump, she shook so hard that I thought the front wheel was coming off! I was going about 35, slowed down to about 20 after hitting the brakes and it went away. Pizza suffered minor damages...compared to my heart. The front end was rebuilt within the last 2 years and doesn't see any offroad action. Any similar experiences out there?

When my 77 4X4 did it it was the track bar bushings. But it could be tie rods, or shocks. Good luck.

I've had this happen many times on my trucks.Usually it is the track bar bushings or the drag link like THITDOG said. But check the bracket that the trackbar bolts to.Ive had that hole wear out oblong and even with new bushings itll still shake.Have somebody lightly wiggle the steering wheel while looking at the front end parts, youll see any excessive play real quick. Most common thing is a worn drag link.

I believe the technical terminology for what you described is what I call "Hooptie Wobble". Most likely the trac bar like the other people suggested, but you might check out everything else while you're at it. I had one truck do it because of the steering stabilizer, and one due to worn out tie rod ends.
