usually im the one helping ppl out but now i need help. im thinking of adding an eq to my truck as well as amping my speakers (i have on for components). in doing this i will add a cap to my subs because they need this anyways. also i was looking for an eq to do everything. 6 channels. one that would fit into my dash right below my pioneer head unit. (any green ones out there?)
Matt why put a cap for your subs. A cap is nothing more than a bandaid. If you are having problems with the lights dimming do the BIG 3 upgrade (I think that is what it is called). anyways I dont know about any eq out there. They kind of whent out with the way the aftermarket radios are these days. Eclipse and alpine HU have 7 band (i think) eq's built in now. anyways GL. and sorry if I offened you with any of this. it is all JMO.
are you looking for an electronic or passive EQ?
Pioneer has an electronic unit DeQ-9200
its a full din size looks like a cdplayer
this unit has been around for a while --
its a relatively nice unit--I used this in my one of my previous
SQ competition cars--
you can put this unit into 'pro mode' you will get 6 seperate
channells-full DSP\18 band eq\time align\adjust x-over +slopes
the downside with this unit is that your limited to its 1 or 1.5volt
rca output-- regardless of your input voltage
if you have quality amps and cables this shouldnt be an issue

i know what a cap does... and i already have dual optima batteries with 2 guage wireing with an aftermarket alternator. But i am compeditivly running 2 amps already and this will be the third. I need the cap to help control spikes in the system. (the sub amp pulls huge current, then none.) I will be running nearly 2000 watts of amps when done
i am looking hard at an old pioneer eq... but i really want to find one that is illuminated green. I found a yellowish one and i think i might buy it and take it apart and replace the led's.
ford dashes illuminate green and my cd player illuminates the exact same color so everything matches wonderfully
I have what could be considered a "high end" system. I have old school a/d/s component speakers and Linear Power amps. The sound quality is beyond awesome. Somehow I talked myself into buying a Soundstream parametric EQ/line driver with all the bells and whistles. My thinking was it would add flexibility to my system and not affect SQ. BIG MISTAKE. It sounded like s**t. I tried every possible setting and/or combinations of settings. I couldn't get it out of my truck quickly enough. If you follow some of the car audio forums you will read other similar stories. Just my experience with EQ. Hope if you take the plunge it turns out better for you.

Nah man you messed up by using soundstream...Soundstream is worse than audiobahn...Pioneers DeQ-9200 is sooooooo much better.
I been involved in car audio for over 30 years and I don't believe in making too many general statements like "Soundstream is worse than Audiobahn". Soundstream makes amps that retail for nearly $5,000. They did go through some "Audiobahnlike" years, but the company changed hands in 2001 and two years ago they hired one of Rockford's original founders, who was also with Precision Power when they were actually high end, to bring them back to prominence. They are not on the same category as Audiobahn. Sounds like something you read on another forum or heard someone say. There certainly is no basis in fact to that statement. On the high end forums, the particular unit I used is highly regarded. And, they also make some budget gear, for which there is the biggest market, but this EQ/line driver really is pretty good. I just believe it wasn't up to the level of my other equipment. It actually sounded "processed", if you can understand what I'm trying to say. Without the EQ the sound is so open and crisp it's phenomenal. With it, it sounded like someone put an old wet blanket over my speakers. And, maybe the Pioneer in question here is better than the Soundstream, but my point to the original poster was that the EQ "sound" isn't for everyone, and he may be disappointed. But, that's for him to decide. He may actually like the processed sound better.
