i live in nc but bought my truck in GA where they don't do any emission testing. the previous owner thought it was a good idea to remove all emission control stuff under the hood (smog pump, egr..blah blah). My question is...if i wanted to replace all that stuff with new equipment - WHAT am i buying? can you give me a list of all emission components?
what is the likelihood that if i can get these off of a parts truck, that they'll still be working?
I drive an 85 explorer with 302...i think it has a 2barrel. it's got new exhaust which (thankfully) includes the cat and o2 sensor. So what all is there under the hood?
thanks alot

You are probably going to have to replace several of the components to the air injection system. That can get pricey. I think one of the check valves was about $70. A remanuf. air pump is about $60. The there is another vavle and some tubing.
EGR will have a sensor, EGR valve, and tubing that goes to the back of each head.
There are also some vaccum solenoids that go over on the passenger side fender. These are not cheap brand new. Better start looking at the boneyards for these. I want to say that the parts store had them for over $100 for the assembly (3 valves / solenoids).
Trade it on another truck with all the right stuff. You may never figure out all the former owner did to it and fixing it will cost you a small fortune, unless you have a mechanic pal who works in a salvage yard.
Sorry to sound cynical, but it's true.

I have an 85 F-150 that I'm using as a parts truck for my 86. It has a 302 2bbl engine. Under the hood was kinda butchered by the previous owner but, most of the emission stuff is still there (but it wont work on my 86).
If it would help you out, I could take a couple of pix and send them to you so you could get an idea of what you're up against.
I'm thinking if the truck was worth going from NY to GA to buy it, it's probably worth spending a little effort to fix it up, right?
well my grandpa lives in GA and when i was down (from NC) i saw it at a habitat for humanity auction...body was straight except for some surface rust....but it had everything that i wanted...short bed, dual tanks, good trim, real nice interior, 2 tone....it was nice...i got it for 550 and it runs sweet. I just wanna put that stuff on so it'll be right...dude if you could send me those pix that's be GREAT. this truck is pretty nice...it's well worth the effort and the $$$...thanks alot

I'll get those pix as soon as the weather clears up. The truck is outside and it's raining right now. Maybe tomorrow?
