T-18 vs np435

Hi all
I am thinking about swapping a manual trans in place of the AOD I have now. I was originaly looking for a T-18, but I found a np435, and I was wondering which one would is better. I want to know what all you think about these two transmissions. Btw I have a 86 f150 4x4 302 reg cab long box.

I had a '86 F-250 4x4 with the T-18 ...was good except the front bearing whined/rumbled for a year and a day....never failed though...dont know much else.

the New Process NP-235 is bulletproof ...Ive had a few ...liked.....and know that they have been used in many tough applications .....including 2 1/2 ton military trucks.....the ones with the "monster truck" Rockwell axles.....ought to tell us something....huh?

They're both pretty indestructable. The NP435 has a 6.69:1 granny gear and the T-18 has a 6.32:1 granny gear.

If you can find a T-19 that would be a good choice. They are almost identicle to a T18, but Rev. and 1st are syncroed. Also, they came in close ratio gear sets, which would be better for you if don't really need/use granny gear.

I have an NP435. I like it, but rarely do I use 1st.

I've got an NP435, and I wouldn't trade it for any other model I've driven.
Like was said, they are bulletproof and very forgiving.
The low gearing is not ideal for gas mileage, but I didn't buy a 4x4 for mileage.
235k on mine with no serious problems.
Great pulling power with the correct engine.
First gear is great for crawling off road.

The guy I bought my truck from said he hated the NP435.
The gearing was just too low. Made for high revs and poor gas mileage.
I've driven trucks with the OD manual, and I don't like them, but then again, I'm a bit old fashion. I think a truck should ride rough and not have the amenities that some of the new trucks have.

They are both bulletproof trannys in my book. My dad has a '73 F-250 with a 360/T-18, and I have an '83 F-150 4x4 with a 300/NP435. The T-18 has 375,000 trouble free miles on it and my NP has 250,000 trouble free miles on it. You can't go wrong with either one of them.

If you don't mind one more opinion - I've owned one of each and they are both indestructible. They both go way above and beyond what you expect of a truck transmission.

biggest difference between the two....the np 435 shifts WAY better. both take a serious beating and id take either one.

They were both used in the 70's. I believe that the T-18s might be more
popular in the 2wd's vs. the Np435 for the 4wd's. I have seen T-18's in 4wd's and 435's in 2wd's. I think it mostly depended on what else wha ordered with
the truck.

Exclamation be careful

I did the swap from an aod to a 435 and now i hardly drive the truck, the differentials have 4:11 gears so im doing 2000rpm's at 45mph.
just my advice, check your gearing first
