Any Computer Guys Help?
Just my opinion, and I know other guys have done OK off Ebay, but with what I know about how things get 'stressed' and still work long enough for the seller to say "well it was working when I sent it to you", I'll stick with the local re-sellers or the mail order houses.
I was typing, verbatim, from the book that I have on the subject. (Which is quite ancient, BTW.)
Also, the mainboard that he described, IF it is like mine, has both SIMM and DIMM slots, onboard. (This board can take either, but not both types.)
If I'm not mistaken, this board maxes out at 1 Gig of memory. (Mine does, anyway.)

k ive tried the removing the video card and putting it back in... and i do have an SiS chipset... i used to have an Nvidia vid. card but it worked horribly so i decided to try another brand
also, i do have DIMM memory and yea the board does max out at 1 Gig for memory
and the power supply was 12v... i think thats all that they make to fit a 4 pin connector but im not positive...
the computer ran fine for over a year and a half now comin up on 2 years... got all this stuff for x-mas 2 years ago.
another thing is about the beep codes.... the computer wont stay on long enough
i dont know if it necessairly know if it was a surge or not because i had just got off the computer at like 2 in the morning but all i know is that it turned off on its own and it smelled like an electric fire but there was no actual fire... and the next morning my dad came in to turn it on and the power supply sparked big time so he just turned it off and left it...
so heres the other deal.. he went to work and was looking for a mobo/cpu combo and found this... http://www.ascendtech.us/customkitit...TMBM863GW2800M
does that sound like a good system with adding all of this?
ati radeon 9600xt
sound blaster audigy 2 platinum edition
80 gig w.d. hd
antec 400w power supply
cd writer/dvd player
512 mb ram... hopin to get a gig
With that said, the MB/cpu you posted the link to, is REALLY inexpensve!
I don't like (personally) that there are only two PCI slots. I'm old school, for the lack of a better term. I want several PCI slots, so that I can add 'stuff'.
The 'embedded' video is a 'wash' because of your ATI card.
The same for the 'embedded' sound.
Personally, if I were to buy another MB, I would opt for an Asus MB, or another name-brand MB.
Again, that price is REALLY inexpensive. It's like they are giving you the MB when you buy the cpu.
(I'd pass on it.) Again, that's my personaly opinion. There are others more experienced at this, than me.

second the beeps are for the memory so if the memory is seated properly and the error is still there the board is proably bad try a diff memory stick the cheapest test and if the error is still there you might need to replace the board
third ebay- most item on ebay are new and still in orginal boxes and i never had a problem buying computer parts and only one problem selling a computer when it got to the destantion the usps droped the box and cracked the board on the pc and bent the case
but anyway try newegg.com for your supplies they ship fast and have resionable prices ive built a new comp under $500 but there still out dated by 4 years
For the record. . . .
I didn't say that ATI and VIA are incompatible.
Please allow me to quote myself: (Emphasis added with bold italics.)
"Next item: On SOME PCs, I've noticed that there are conflicts with ATI cards and the chipset(s).
Does your board have a VIA chipset, or SiS chipset?
The most common problem is between the ATI card and the VIA chipset.
For this reason alone. . . . I only use NVidia cards, since discovering the conflict(s)."
I forget the exact VIA chipset, but, on a couple of the PCs that I have built, there are KNOWN conflicts between ATI video cards, and VIA chipsets. One, is my son's PC. Shortly after installing a new ATI card, the PC would boot, then, as soon as the video driver loaded, it crashed.
Granted, there was a patch available at ATI's site, but, I've had more trouble (personally) with ATI, than I have with NVidia.
The issue is with the chipset, not ATI, in all acuality.
This is another example of taste(s). Some like chocolate. Some like vanilla. Some like strawberry.
Some like Ford (duh). Some like Chevy or Mopar.
Me, I like all flavors, but, I DON'T like ATI. (Sorry. That's my personal opinion.) Actually, no, I'm not sorry. I don't like ATI cards.
