my rear defogger went out last winter and I'm not going without it this winter. What should I look for to fix this? I checked the basic things....fuses, relay, etc..

Check to make certain the 0.25" spade connectors on the window grid are still connected. They can work loose over time. Easiest way to check is to open the tailgate and remove the inspection cover. The connections are near the bottom edge on the driver's side of the window. If you need to raise the window to see the connections, close the driver's side latch on the gate by hand. (There are two half-circle cams that need to be closed). Now you can run the window up with the tailgate open. Take care though, leaving the window unsupported and all the way up this way is asking for disaster. MAke absolutely certain you grab the release handle and re-open the latch once you have finished so that you don't smash the closed latch when you try to close the gate.
