My engine has a 65 intake, c8ae heads, who knows what block, and who knows whatever else was thrown on over the years. I find it funny that every FE I have come across in the past 2-3 years of building up my truck, I have yet to find a complete engine that is unmolested and stock.
I have owned and seen several. I know where a 1963 427-8V 425 hp is even, about 3 blocks from here, still in the original Galaxie. Had a 1962 406 3-2V that I picked up in 1980 that was all original and have had numerous 390's over the years that were factory stock. Just when engines get to be as old as the FE series is you will see lots of repair work done and since most parts swap back and forth with no problem it gets to the mix and match stage fast. You know, quicker to take what the guy has ready to go than wait for yours to be rebuilt.
Part of it is that Ford used the same part numbers over many years. Example, you could have an all original '75 F100 with a 360, and the heads would be marked D2TE-AA, the cylinder block D3TE and the pistons 390-4V. This doesn't mean it has 1972 heads, a 1973 block, and pistons out of a 390. Ford just built it that way.
Now I'm sure there was lots of parts swapping done over the years, but dont assume things are of a different year just because the casting numbers dont match up.

I had a 360 in my 75 f250 that matched until i could get it home to rip the intake off and upgrade to a four barrel and aluminum intake... it's hard to beat the satisfaction of throwing a cast iron intake over the fender to the ground and not caring what happens to it.. gotta make suer no one's around though- could kill someone with one of those stock babies!!!!
