the thing about them cast iron intakes is you can lift the whole engine out with a lift plate where the carb sits ,,,,,, and aluminum i think not

I think you can lift an FE block with an aluminum intake mainfold by the carb studs.

I've done it many times, and never had one let loose.

At least not yet.

The engine in my truck is all stock (I am the second owner) but someday it will have a 428 crank and 360 pistons

i'm with sierraben on that one- i've used them lots of times to pull motors with no problems- makes ya wonder when it's about 4feet off the ground though doesn't it?!?!? Oh yeah, if you can hold all your bills down with a intake i'm jealous- I gotta use and intake too.... with the heads still attached!!! LOL

Fordbeast_80: Dont use a 428 crank and 360 pistons, you'll wind up with the pistons above the deck at TDC. Use 390 truck pistons.

On lifting the engine, I usually put a bolt in the accessory hole at each end of the cylinder head, and put a chain across. Somehow, I just dont trust those four intake bolt threads...

I just lean over and pick it up. Listen to all you sissies using pullies and chains.

BTW - I would not lift the engine by the intake, it just doesn't seem right.

Hey, that's how I pulled the cast iron intake manifold off my old 360, while it was in the truck! Just lean over and pick it up!

Pullies? Who's using pullies? I've got a cherry picker!

Out here in oregon we leave the tranny AND transfer case attached when the situation arises... just get a good handhold and tug- no big deal really...

yea, the tranny is still there. I usually end up ripping the yoke off the driveshaft so I need to be a little more careful with that in the future.

Hey fordraceboy. Your are gonna do more than rip off that intake for a swap. You might have to take the heads with it.
