'64 Brake Drums
My brakes are frozen. I'm attempting to remove the drums. The shop manual indicates that I need to remove the wheel assembly on the front wheels to get the drums off. Am I reading this correctly? How do I get the hub/dust cap off? Any tips on removing stuck drums?

Use a pair of pliers and pull the dust cap. Then take the cotter pin out and remove the retainer off. Then back the nuts and washer out, Take and turn the brake adjuster off. do this from the back of the backing plate. Take 2 screwdrivers and work them between the plate and drum and pull. You may have to pound on the drum to "shock" the rust. Not too excessive, as you can crack the drum. It will slide off the spindle.

Minor addition...I'd use Channelock's instead of regular pliers. They get around the dust cap much better and don't do any damage at all when used properly. In addition, I use a very dull metal chisel to reinstall. I'll seat the thing by hand and tap around the double-thickness "rim" of the dust cover so that it also can be reinstalled without damange. Whacking the thing on with direct hammer blows just doesn't seem cool especially when it makes the dust cover looked like a smushed soda can.
