You should be able to if it carburated. Offenhauser makes intakes for the Ford straigt sixes. If you do this, make sure you don't put to big of a carb on it. It doesn't take much to make these things run. 500 cfm would probably be very adequate.

Clifford's has a lot of stuff for the 300 also...they have four barrel intakes, as well as ones you can adapt to run two-2 barrels which would probably distribute the fuel a lot more evenly.

I may be mistaken in this, but won't putting an aftermarket carb and intake manifold on an 86 f series with 4.9 cause the carb-feedback computer to go haywire and not advance the timing properly. Once again i may be totally out there with this response, but i very curious as if this is the case cause im considering this for my truck. I was thinking i would have to go back to an earlier ignition system to run this setup?

Hmmmm, I have an 86 4.9. When I bought it the feedback carb was gone. It doesn't run the greatest. I think it's either the carb (rebuilt it), but it didn't help, or the timing. It runs smooth and the all of the sudden it's like the timing retards or something. Rossta you may have answered my problem...Thanks!

Yes you do. If your distributor does not have a vacuum connection, it is computer controlled, and has to be swapped out if you change any of the other computer components(one of which is the computerized carb).

Ohhh yeah, I forgot about the electronic feedback carbs. doh!

I believe you have to convert to Duraspark II ignition to run a regular carb.

What exactly was fed back to the computer from the carb? Throttle position?
