primer
I want to paint my truck nothing fancy just decent looking and to slow rust. I fixed the rust did some bondo and sprayed some spray can primer about six hours later every place there was bare metal it was rusting through the primer. Has anyone ever tryed the napa primer that comes in gallons will this slow the rust? I dont want to spend an arm and a leg but I dont what it to rust out in a week. The paint Iam going to use is ford blue tractor paint at about 30 bucks a gallon I was going to make my truck look decent for a small $$ now all I have is a half primered truck thats rusting out again.

Most primers will absorb water to a certain degree and some are better than others. The best choice, if your concerned about water absorbstion is epoxy primer. It's more expensive but worth it, if your truck is going to be a 'rolling' restoration. It will eventually break down due to a lack of built in uv protection and should be top coated in a reasonable period of time.

Since your truck is "rusting out" again, you need to sand it back down to the metal. A cheap and easy fix would be to spray the bare metal with Ospho, metal ready or any of the rust converters. Then as Huntsman stated, use an epoxy primer.
Also, your best bet would be to get the same brand of primer as your paint. Some paints & primers don't work well together.
