Installed KWIK filter today

Just installed the KWIK filter, man that was easy. Anyway I was wanting to check with the pros and make sure I installed it right. My question is with the filter reminder and the little probe at the bottom of the stock filter housing. I disconnected the filter reminder and took the little probe from the stock housing and zip tied both to the wire running to the brake fuild resevoir. Does that sound right or do I need to change anything.

I would relocate the temperature sensor to somewhere as far away from the exhaust manifold as possible. What I did with mine is to bury it under the framework that held the old air filter housing. It's sitting on top of the plastic fenderwell, under the framework. You have to push down on the fenderwell firmly to get it underneath. Work it around until you can see the probe through the hole in the middle. Release the pressure on the fenderwelll, it will pop back up and hold everything in place.

I zip tied mine to the brake line. That puts it right next to the filter.

And I drilled a hole in the "end" of my new filter the right size to fit the FilterMinder's grommet into.

There's a couple of pictures of in this thread:

That way, it can still tell you when to change that big honkin' filter!

I read that some guys zip tie both components to the fender well, is that a better place?. As for the way if have the probe now is there any possibility of problems in the near future. Thanks for the help.

Riley,

What good will the FilterMinder do for you, zip-tied to the fender? The only thing you have done is insured that it won't get lost.

It's supposed to be plumbed into the clean-air side of the air filtration system if you want it to continue to indicate anything.

Did you read the entire thread I referenced above? It should answer many of your questions.

Yes Pop I read your post, and that was not my question. My question was will the little metal probe (excuse me for not knowing the correct term) be damaged if I leave it where it is currently at.

Your original question does appear to apply to the FilterMinder, too.

At any rate, most people zip-tie the Inlet Air Temperature probe to something like a brake line to keep it near the air filter and to keep it from being broken. Kwik protected his probe even a little better by slipping it under the old filter tray's lower piece.

remember to recheck the hose clamp on the filter/boot joint, mine was semi-loose once and it was good i had the filter strapped in where the boot would not slide off.

i put the lower right corner (looking from the front) of the filter and put it in a ledge on the fender liner (near that area, you can pull the filter up and see what i mean). then i noticed my intake boot was pretty close to the bracket that holds the CCV inlet bracket on, and the hot-side intercooler pipe insulation. it wont move. i made it extra tight by putting a wrench on the hose clamp.

With a Dremel tool yuou can cut a hole with the ears and screw the temp sender in the plastic end of the filter right next to the filter minder. Use the hole in the old filter box as a template and cut slowly. Turn the sensor with a bit of force in the correct direction so it bites into the plastic. 1000 miles on mine and it hasn't fallen out yet
