E100 Automatic Transmission Swap

Hello, I just bought a 1965 Econoline pick up with a very sloppy 3 speed tranny on the column, that I would swap out with an automatic. Does anyone have any idea what A/T would bolt up? Would a C4? Has anyone done this swap? How much work is it?

61ford, While generally that is a good suggestion, that forum doesn't get the traffic that this one does. As long as he is asking general 65 year questions, let's see if we can help him here. More specific E questions sould be directed to the Ecno forum.

Howboutthat?

Just becouse you may not be in the "right" forum doesn't mean anything.....these guys here are geniuses!!!!!

I would look for a F100 65-79 with a 6 cylinder engine. I'd grab the flywheel, starter, transmission, crossmember, drive shaft and all the linkage, kick down and radiator. I think you will need to fabricate some type of cable shift system since the transmission is so far away from the driver. This vehicle is unique so hopefully you can find someone that has already done this swap. Ford installed automatics in these trucks so you may find the parts to install the Ford shifter. Good luck and Welcome to FTE!
